CYCLONES FALL TO WALLEYE ON NEW YEAR’S EVE

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones fell to the Toledo Walleye, 3-2, on New Year’s Eve in front of over 10,000 fans at Heritage Bank Center. A 30-save performance from Carter Gylander would lift Toledo over the Cyclones on Tuesday night.

  • Hunter Johannes scored his second goal in as many games to open up the scoring. His second of the season made it 1-0, Walleye in the first period.
  • Cincinnati responded quickly. Chris Dodero found Mathieu Gosselin who scored his fifth goal of the regular season to make it 1-1. The Cincinnati tally came 1:27 after the opening tally from Toledo.
  • The Cincinnati power play would connect later in the first period. Mathieu Gosselin and Jacob Bengtsson connected and flung a shot towards goal. The shot would be redirected by Chris Dodero to make it 2-1, Cyclones late in the period.
  • At the 3:49 mark of the second period, the Walleye would equalize to make 2-2. Tyler Spezia scored his 16th goal of the season to tie a tightly contested contest between Toledo and Cincinnati.
  • The rest of the period would see a lot of physicality and shots on goal, but neither team would connect. Toledo outshot Cincinnati 13-10, with Cyclones netminder Pavel Cajan making 12 saves in the period.
  • Colin Swoyer would score his second goal of the season in the third period off a rebound from the boards that solved Cajan. The goal would stand as the eventual game-winning goal despite a late push from the Cyclones.

Cyclones will have a few days off before travelling to Illinois for a Friday night game against the Bloomington Bison. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and can be streamed on FloHockey and the Cyclones Radio Network.
