CYCLONES ADD OFFENSIVE DEPTH, SIGN ZACK TROTT TO A NEW CONTRACT
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, today announced that forward Zack Trott has re-signed for the 2026-27 season. With his signing, Trott will skate in his second professional season with the Cyclones.
Trott, 26, re-signs with the Cyclones after spending the 2025-26 campaign with Cincinnati. In 44 games played, Trott recorded eight goals and 14 assists (22 points) in his first season with the Cyclones. Despite a strong start to his rookie campaign, Trott suffered a lower body injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season. The product of Honeywood, Ont. was originally acquired from the Kansas City Mavericks on Oct. 15, 2025 in exchange for future considerations.
“Zack’s vision, puck protection and ability to make plays under pressure give him the tools to become a difference maker at this level. As last season progressed, we began to see greater consistency and flow in his game,” said Cyclones Head Coach Riley Weselowski. “He was creating more offense, making plays with confidence and elevating his work rate on both sides of the puck. Unfortunately, his season was cut short by injury just as he was beginning to find his game and show what he is capable of. While that setback was disappointing, it also gives Zack an opportunity to return stronger, more confident and even better prepared for his second season in Cincinnati.”
“We expect him to take on a larger role in our top six and on the power play. His experience with the Toronto Marlies, earned following a highly successful final junior season in which he led the Soo Greyhounds in scoring, also gives him valuable familiarity with the standards and expectations of the Maple Leafs’ development system,” He added. “ Zack has produced offense everywhere he has played, and we believe he has everything required to develop into an elite offensive threat in the ECHL. We are excited to see him return healthy and ready to take the next step.”
He originally signed with the Mavericks after finishing his collegiate career with St. Xavier Francis University (USports, where he played four seasons). Over the course of his collegiate career, Trott recorded 34 goals, 67 assists (101 points) in 106 games played. Trott was a second team USports All-Star in his final college season. In his first few games as a pro, he notched three goals and nine assists (12 points) in 18 games with the Mavericks and appeared in 12 games during their run in the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
