‘CLONES BRING BACK LIAM KIDNEY FOR THE 2026-27 CAMPAIGN
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, today announced that forward Liam Kidney has signed with the team ahead of the 2026-27 season. With his signing, Kidney will play in his first full professional season with the Cyclones.
Kidney, 25, appeared in 19 games after the conclusion of his collegiate career at Acadia University. At the end of his initial stint with the Cyclones, Kidney recorded four goals and four assists (eight points) to conclude the 2025-26 campaign. Kidney recorded his first professional goal on March 21, 2026 against the Fort Wayne Komets and finished his season on a three-game point streak.
“Liam gave us a real boost when he joined us late last season. He plays with a relentless motor and a team-first mentality. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to help us win, and you see that in his pressure, his stick detail and his willingness to block shots.” said Cyclones Head Coach Riley Weselowski. “Those aren’t always the things people notice first, but they’re the things coaches and teammates appreciate. He can drive defenders wide, back teams off on entries and create time and space for our scorers. We saw that on some of the plays he made down the stretch.”
“Liam was a captain at Acadia, and it’s easy to understand why. He leads through his habits and his work ethic. Nothing has been handed to him in his career, he has earned every opportunity.” He added. “Those are the players you want when games get difficult. With a full season in our structure, we believe Liam can become an important part of our penalty kill, create more offense with his speed and help us win in a lot of different ways.”
Before the start of his pro career, Kidney logged 26 goals and 53 assists (79 points) with the Acadia University Axemen. recorded a career-best seven goals and 21 assists (28 points) and finished second in scoring for the ‘X-Men’. At the junior level, Kidney played for four different teams in the QMJHL. Kidney spent four seasons with the Cape Breton Eagles, Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Drummondville Voltigeurs, and the Rimouski Océanic. Over his five year QMJHL tenure, Kidney logged 31 goals and 49 assists (80 points) over the span of 193 career games.
