CYCLONES BOLSTER THEIR BLUE LINE, INK DEFENSEMAN MITCHELL WOLFE
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, today announced that defenseman Mitchell Wolfe has signed with the team ahead of the 2026-27 season. With his signing, Wolfe becomes the fifth defenseman to sign with the Cyclones this season.
Wolfe, 23, debuted with the Cyclones after concluding a four-year college career at Bemidji State University. Wolfe scored his first professional goal against the Kalamazoo Wings on April 18, 2026 in just his second appearance. He spent most of last season as the assistant captain of the Bemidji State Beavers. In his final collegiate season, Wolfe recorded two goals and five assists (seven points) while on the blueline.
“Mitchell’s skating is the first thing that stands out. He’s an elite skater who defends hard, can escape pressure and gets pucks moving north,” said Cyclones Head Coach Riley Weselowski. “During his time at Bemidji State, he developed into a well-rounded defenseman who can shut teams down, separate players from the puck and block shots. At the same time, he has the ability to beat guys up the ice and join the rush as a second-wave option.”
We only had Mitchell for two games at the end of last season, but that experience gave him an opportunity to feel the pace of the professional game and he finished it by scoring his first pro goal. He’s highly coachable, wants to learn and approaches everything with a team-first mentality,” He added. “When you combine those qualities with the tools he already has, he has a chance to become a very good professional. The next step for Mitchell is finding consistency and keeping his game simple. If he defends hard, is tough to play against, the rest of his game will come naturally. We’re excited to have him back for a full season and help him establish himself as a dependable pro.”
The Andover, Minn. native would finish his time with the Beavers logging 138 appearances, notching five goals and 23 assists (28 points) throughout the course of his course seasons. Before making his way to the Division I level, Wolfe started his junior career with Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL) before spending the majority of his time with the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL), where he spent two full seasons. His most productive season was in 2021-22, where he led the team in points by a defenseman with seven goals and 16 assists (23 points).
