FORWARD MAX HELGESON RE-SIGNS WITH CINCINNATI CYCLONES
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, today announced that forward Max Helgeson has signed with the team ahead of the 2026-27 season. With his signing, Helgeson will skate in his first full professional season with the Cyclones.
Helgeson, 25, is coming off 15 appearances with the Cincinnati Cyclones to conclude the 2025-26 campaign. The product of Anchorage, Alaska recorded four assists to start his professional career, including three assists in his first four games in the ECHL. Before he joined Cincinnati, he logged 10 goals and 10 assists (20 points) in his final collegiate season at Miami University (Ohio). He recorded 68 total career points (33g, 35a) over the course of his four collegiate seasons, including three seasons at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.
“Max’s 15 games with us last season gave him an important foundation to build on. The adjustment to professional hockey wasn’t always easy, but he learned valuable lessons and brought energy that mattered during our stretch run,” said Cyclones Head Coach Riley Weselowski. “His attention to detail and appetite for learning through video give us confidence that he will flourish as he becomes more comfortable in a consistent role. He plays with a motor, he creates turnovers on the forecheck, is tenacious around the net and is willing to get to the hard areas to create offense.”
"He has found ways to contribute offensively throughout his career, and we believe that will continue in Cincinnati. His willingness to block shots and commitment to studying his responsibilities also give him the potential to become someone we lean on heavily on the penalty kill,” he added. Max works extremely hard, but he also knows how to keep things light. Teammates gravitate toward him, and we saw the same positive locker room presence that his previous coaches spoke so highly of. The next step is consistency, understanding his role, establishing the daily habits that make him successful and executing them every day. We believe a full season in our structure and culture will help him take that step. When Max is hard to play against, he helps us win hockey games.”
Prior to the start of his NCAA career, he started out at Lindenwood University (ACHA DI) and claimed the ACHA National Championship in 2021-22. At the junior level, Helgeson spent three seasons competing in the NAHL, playing for the Janesville Jets, Jamestown Rebels, and the Kenai River Brown Bears. He logged 37 goals and 51 assists (88 points) throughout his 105 game junior career.
