CYCLONES RECORD EXTRA POINT IN SHOOTOUT VICTORY OVER WHEELING
WHEELING, W.V. (Oct. 31, 2026) - The Cincinnati Cyclones defeat the Wheeling Nailers, 4-3, in a nail-biting shootout victory on Halloween night at the WesBanco Arena. In a game where the Cyclones never trailed, Cincinnati’s top line led the way with a combined four points to record the road victory.
- Cincinnati scored the lone goal of the first period off a redirected tip from Jackson Kunz (2) that fooled Kasimir Kaskisuo. The power play tally was created by Frank Djurasevic and Adam Kydd to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The Cyclones outshot the Nailers 14-4 in the first period.
- At the 6:44 mark of the second period, defenseman John Spetz (1) picked the corner to record his first goal as a Cincinnati Cyclone. His sharp angle shot was assisted by Matt Hellickson and Sahil Panwar, extending Panwar’s point streak to five games.
- The Nailers wouldn’t go away quietly. 25 seconds after the Cyclones made it a 2-0 game, Zach Krajnik (1) scored at the 7:09 mark to make it a 2-1 game. The Cyclones went into the third period still up by a one-goal margin, but it wouldn’t last long. Former Cyclone Dante Sheriff (2) scored 3:16 into the final period to tie the game up at 2-2.
- Ryan Kirwan (3) took it into his own hands. Off of feeds from Simon Labelle and Sahil Panwar, Kirwan patiently tucked it past Kaskisuo to give the Cyclones their second lead of the game. The lead was short-lived after Robby Drazner (1) scored at the 11:16 mark of the third to knot the game up at 3-3.
- The game would require extra time. After the Cyclones outshot the Nailers, 5-1, in the overtime period, Cincinnati would have to finish off the game in a shootout. Sahil Panwar scored the lone goal of the skills competition and Timofei Obvintsev stopped all three shots to give Cincinnati their first shootout win of the season.
- Cincinnati is now 3-0-0-0 when leading after two periods, and 1-1 in the shootout this season. The Cyclones power play continued to click, with Cincinnati going 1-for-2 on the man advantage tonight.
The Cyclones come back to WesBanco Arena tomorrow afternoon for a rematch against the Wheeling Nailers. Puck drop for tomorrow’s contest is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET and can be streamed on FloHockey and the Cyclones Radio Network.
