FORWARD CONNOR SWEENEY SIGNS WITH CINCINNATI CYCLONES

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, today announced that forward Connor Sweeney has signed with the team ahead of the 2026-27 season. With his signing, Sweeney will play in his second professional season with the Cyclones.

Sweeney, 26, is coming off a 20-point (9g, 11a) season with the Cholet Dogs of the French Ice Hockey Federation (FFHG). The North Andover, Mass. spent four years at the University of New Hampshire prior to the start of his professional career. Before he joined Cincinnati, he recorded two goals and 13 assists in 123 games played with the Wildcats where he served as an assistant captain in his senior season.

“Connor’s game has been built on being dependable. At New Hampshire, he earned the trust of his coaches by committing to the defensive side of the game and doing whatever the team needed from him,” said Cyclones Head Coach Riley Weselowski. “He is very coachable, understands responsibility without the puck and can play both center and wing, which gives us valuable versatility within our lineup. Last season, Connor went to Europe, received a greater opportunity offensively and showed another layer to his game.”

“He produced throughout the regular season, but what really stands out is how much he elevated his play during Cholet’s championship run. He recorded 11 points in 13 playoff games and delivered in some of their biggest moments,” he added. “Being able to raise your game when the pressure increases says a lot about a player, and Connor played a major role in helping that team win a championship. Connor is hungry to return to North America and prove himself as a professional. He isn’t expecting anything to be handed to him. We believe the offensive confidence he developed last season, combined with the dependable foundation he established in college, gives him an opportunity to become a very effective player for us.”

During his time in juniors, he played in the BCHL and NCDC. Sweeney spent the 2019-20 season with the Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL) where he recorded 14 points (2g, 12a) in 58 games played. In the 2020-21 season, he played for Islanders Hockey Club (NCDC) after appearing in one game for them two years prior. Over his three year junior career, he recorded 5 goals and 23 assists (28 points) over the span of 76 career games.
